Havens for Nature: Supporting Biodiversity in Faith Grounds Online Talk
This online National Heritage Week event is for any faith groups or individuals interested in taking action for biodiversity on their faith grounds. Open to all interested!
The Heritage Council's Havens for Nature: Supporting Biodiversity in Faith Grounds guide highlights simple actions that faith communities can take to enhance biodiversity and create space for nature on their grounds. This online event will bring together a range of expert speakers to share practical advice, inspiration, and real-life experiences of biodiversity projects taking place in faith settings across Ireland.
With growing momentum behind biodiversity action on faith grounds, including the Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference commitment to return 30% of church grounds to nature by 2030, this event will explore why these spaces are so important for wildlife and how communities can make meaningful changes, regardless of size or resources.
Speakers include Meadhbh Bolger, Biodiversity Officer with the Heritage Council; Kate Chandler of the National Biodiversity Data Centre (NBDC); Jennie Drysdale, Chairperson of Doonbeg Tidy Towns and leader of the Doonbeg Church Return to Nature project; Jane Mellett of Trócaire and the Laudato Si' Working Group; The Reverend David White, Rector of Zion Church of Ireland Parish; Satwinder Singh, Chairperson of EcoSikh Ireland; and Paul McNamee of the Sunyata Buddhist Centre.
Together, they will share practical guidance, case studies, and perspectives from a range of faith traditions and community initiatives.
