Working with Biodiversity - The Law & You

Working with Biodiversity - The Law & You

Education & Training Natural Heritage & Biodiversity

This publication is designed to guide you in the main aspects of the laws relating to biodiversity. It also provides contact details for people who can provide advice on projects which involve working with biodiversity. It is up to the individual to ensure that their actions comply with all relevant laws.

The legislation is not in place to present an obstacle to those who wish to carry out positive projects in their community,
but is there to protect the environment that supports the community. In this way, it can be used as a positive tool by communities that want to raise awareness of their local environment, especially where it may be more appropriate to leave a habitat alone.

Policy Paper on Heritage Awareness in Ireland

Education & Training

The Heritage Council has outlined key policy recommendations in this paper. These aim to improve levels of awareness and understanding by the public of our heritage and to secure greater participation by communities in all aspects of heritage activity, including policy development and its implementation.

This report presents the results of the first ever survey of the general public in Ireland of heritage awareness. The survey results clearly illustrate the importance the public place on heritage in Ireland today, the perceived benefits of heritage and its conservation, and commonly held attitudes towards the protection of our heritage.
