Informing the Emerging National Policy on Architecture

The Heritage Council was delighted to take part in the "Town Centered" Workshop on Friday 12th June 2020 organised by Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and Royal Instutute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI)

The workshop, held under the auspices of the National Policy on Architecture, brought together key stakeholders from academy, practice, policy and funding context – to consider the actions required to revitalize extant town fabric, the re-thinking of policies and funding mechanisms post COVID-19 to address reuse and innovation and to consider urban design initiatives to support town centres.on Town Centres.

Alison Harvey, gave a presentation on the Heritage Council and Partners’ innovative Collaborative Town Centre Health Check Programme, viewable below.

Orla Murphy also gave a presentation on the work of FreeMarket. A lively group discussion followed the two presentations and this went on until 5pm, an hour over the envisaged end of the event! Virginia Teehan, Chief Executive of The Heritage Council was part of the group discussion along with Heritage Council board member Dr Miriam Fitzpatrick and Colm Murray, Architecture Officer.
