Mapping Laois wins the Nilsson Local Heritage Award

Mapping Laois” by Arnold Horner, supported and funded by the Heritage  Council in association with Laois County Council over a period of three years, has won the prestigious Nilsson Prize for Local heritage at Listowel Writers Week.

This award is for the best work of heritage or history published in Ireland within the last year.

In Mapping Laois, Arnold Horner, explores the lavishly illustrated manuscripts and printed maps that record the changing political, economic and social circumstances of an Irish county over nearly five centuries. From the first map of c.1560 to the present day, what emerges in this exquisite volume is the rich and varied story of Laois itself.
