5km Built Heritage Photography Competition

The Heritage Council and our friends in National Inventory of Architectural Heritage are delighted to announce the 5km Built Heritage Photography Competition which runs from the 8th to the 18th May.

Are you a keen photographer? Are you interested in Ireland's built heritage? Have you been out walking within your 5km exercise zone, spotted a beautiful building, a mesmerising monument, a pretty post box, and thought to yourself, "that would make a fantastic photograph"? Take that photo! Share it by entering our competition! Maybe win a prize!

Simply send your photograph, via Facebook or email niah@ahg.gov.ie, and we will add it to the gallery we will be posting online on Tuesday 19th May. The democratic jury of social media will determine the winner: the most "likes" over the following week takes the prize! The lucky winner, or winners, will claim a family Heritage Card allowing free access for 2 adults and up to 5 children to all fee-paying State-managed OPW heritage sites throughout the country when they reopen.

There are three categories for entries: Child (up to age 12), Teenager and Adult.

Now for the rules:

All entrants must observe the limits of their 5km exercise zone and follow official guidance on social distancing;

Your photograph, or photographs if you would like to enter more than one, must be taken between the 8th and 18th May;

The content of your photograph must, and we stress must have a Built Heritage theme. Built Heritage gives you plenty of scope for creativity and you might photograph a cottage or a public building, a fountain or a memorial, a pubfront or a shopfront, a milestone or a waterpump. If you spot a nice detail – a Fantastic Irish Fanlight, a decorative keystone, a grotesque corbel, a ghost sign or some decorative mosaic work – we would be more than happy to see those photographs entered too!

The subject of your photograph must, and we stress must be in the public realm and you must not trespass on to private property to carry out your photography;

Your photographs may be in colour or black and white but must not be enhanced or filtered;

You must enter your photograph via Facebook or email niah@ahg.gov.ie stating your name, your age and the location or subject of the photograph. Your photograph must be entered no later than 6pm Monday 18th May.

By entering into the 5km Built Heritage Photography Competition you agree to the publication or your photograph on the Heritage Council and National Inventory of Architectural Heritage websites and/or social media accounts.

The Heritage Council and National Inventory of Architectural Heritage will be posting photographs from our own 5km exercise zones throughout the week to give you some inspiration.
