Welcome to Wildlife
The Heritage Council proposes policies and priorities for the identification, protection, preservation and enhancement of the national heritage, including wildlife habitats, flora and fauna, all of which are afforded protection under the Heritage Act, 1995 [PDF 96KB]. A particular focus of our current work programme is high nature value farming and the development of appropriate policies under the Common Agricultural Policy; collaborating with government departments, state agencies, non-governmental organisations and heritage professionals on strategically important heritage initiatives; promoting the collection, management and dissemination of information on Ireland’s natural heritage, particularly through the National Biodiversity Data Centre.
