Artist Highlights Endagered Irish Species through Glass
Aoife Quinn has just graduated from the National College of Art and Design with a BDes in Craft Design. Her primary artistic interest seeks to illustrate human-kind's symbiotic relationship with nature. Many complex relationships between organisms and human kind are not recognised and seldom valued. Such lack of human awareness has often resulted in large-scale environmental destruction.
The body of work for her final year show explores specific aspects of this issue in Ireland. Through the medium of glass she showcases those species on the Red List (published by NPWS) which are closest to complete extinction in Ireland. She believe the fragility of glass best portrays the precarious position of many species in our world today.
