A Butterfly Monitoring Workshop will take place in the Castlecomer Discovery Park, Castlecomer on Tuesday 28th April at 7.00pm

If you would like to take part in the monitoring scheme and can commit to monitoring a 1-2km transect in your locality once a week from now until the end of September, we would love to hear from you.
Please contact Dearbhala Ledwidge, Heritage Officer, Kilkenny County Council (dearbhala.ledwidge@kilkennycoco.ie or 056-7794925) before Friday 24th April
The workshop is part of the Irish Butterfly Monitoring Scheme coordinated by the National Biodiversity Data Centre. See http://irishbutterflymonitoringscheme.biodiversityireland.ie/ for further details of the Irish Butterfly Monitoring Scheme. Butterflies are important biodiversity indicators i.e. their presence/absence demonstrates environmental and climate changes. During 2008, as part of the monitoring scheme, data were collected from 39 transect sites around Ireland and over 16,000 butterflies were recorded.
This initiative is coordinated by the National Biodiversity Data Centre with support from Kilkenny County Council and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
