Tours of Archaeological Dig at Heritage Council HQ to Continue!

Due to the popular demand for tours of the archaeological dig at the Robing Room here at Heritage Council HQ, we're doing more tours this Thursday & Friday! We had almost double the number of bookings expected last week despite the dire weather.

Visitors will learn how Kilkenny has developed as a city and gain an insight into how archaeologists dig, recognise and record their discoveries. Artefacts from previous digs will also be on display for all to touch and test the archaeologists on their findings! The excavations are being directed by Coilin O'Drisceoil of Kilkenny Archaeology Ltd with funding from NUI Maynooth and the Heritage Council.

Two tours will take place on Wed 4th - Thurs 5th July @ 2.30pm daily.  Booking is necessary.  Contact Mary at mteehan@heritagecouncil.ie  or t. 056- 7770777. Meet at the Heritage Council gates.  The archaeologists have been keeping a video 'dig log', have a look on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TheHeritageCouncil
