County Wicklow Traditional Skills Day

Saturday 9th October 2010 – A Free Event

Come along and view demonstrations of pottery, wood turning, the use of lime, historic joinery, blacksmithing, knitting, weaving and many more traditional skills in a marquee in the courtyard of Wicklow’s Historic Gaol.

There will be family friendly felting workshops and storytelling with Seanachai, Richard Marsh.

Talks throughout the event will include: Edward Byrne from the Traditional Lime Company on Traditional Building Materials, Chris Corlett, Archaeologist and author on Wicklow’s Farmhouses, John Hodgkins, Architect on Traditional Shopfronts of Wicklow Town, while Ivor McElveen from the Building Limes Forum Ireland will give an illustrated talk on “Conservation in the Limelight”, the use of lime in historic buildings.

The event will be taking place in the courtyard of Wicklow Gaol on Saturday 9th October from 11.00 am – 4.00 pm.

Admission to the event, including talks, displays, workshops and demonstrations is free of charge.

This event is co-ordinated by the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council in association with Wicklow’s Historic Gaol and the Wicklow Town Forum, as an action of the County Wicklow Heritage Plan 2009-14. The organisers gratefully acknowledge funding support from The Heritage Council.
