Gearing up for National Heritage Week 2012!
Communities nationwide are being encouraged by the Heritage Council to get involved in National Heritage Week by organising an event in their town or village. National Heritage Week 2012 takes place nationwide from 18th – 26th August.

National Heritage Week 2011!
Over 600,000 people from all over the country took part in National Heritage Week in 2011. Events included medieval fairs, night time bat walks, classical music, poetry, theatre, traditional music, storytelling, historical re-enactments, local history walks and talks, maritime and coastal events, food fairs, traditional skills workshops and archaeological digs. There really was something for everyone and most events were free!

Recording Ireland's Biodiversity
An initiative of the Heritage Council, the National Biodiversity Data Centre has been documenting Ireland's wildlife since 2007. This lovely video has lots of interesting facts, figures and images of Ireland's wildlife and biodiversity.
