President Michael D. Higgins to launch Ireland’s BioBlitz 2012 in Phoneix Park
On Friday 18^th May 2012, President Michael D. Higgins will launch Ireland’s BioBlitz at the Phoneix Park Visitor Centre. From soaring eagles to the smallest bugs in the undergrowth, over a 24-hour period, over 200 scientists and wildlife surveyors will assemble at four locations nationwide to participate in Ireland’s BioBlitz 2012.

Deenihan opens “Heritage as an Engine of Economic Growth” workshop in Seanchaí Literary and Cultural Centre, Listowel, Co. Kerry
Tomorrow Minister for Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan T.D. will address heritage practitioners, local business people, innovators and entrepreneurs as part of a discussion on the potential for the Irish heritage sector to aid local revitalisation and encourage economic growth.

The conference entitled Your Place or Mine? World Heritage & Sustainable Development: the Role of Local Communities, highlighted the need for local community involvement in heritage presentation and interpretation.

Communities nationwide encouraged to be part of National Heritage Week 2012
National Heritage Week 2012 takes place nationwide from 18th – 26th August. Online registration is now open and all events must be registered by the 31st of May for inclusion in the National Heritage Week Event Guide.

Launch of Heritage Council Strategic Plan 2012-2016
Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan T.D. will today launch the Heritage Council’s Strategic Plan 2012 – 2016 which focuses on developing the value of the heritage sector to employment, education and the quality of heritage tourism.
