The Heritage Council and eight partner institutes have won the Irish Landscape Institute (ILI) 'President’s Award' 2009 for the design and delivery of their All-Island, Multi-disciplinary Introduction to Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) CPD Training Course.
The winners of the 2009 Irish Landscape Institute (ILI) Awards were announced on the evening of Friday 12th November 2009 at Dublin City Hall, with Minister John Gormley TD in attendance. The Irish Landscape Institute awarded the ‘President’s Award’ to the Heritage Council and its eight Partners in recognition of the design and delivery of their all-island, multi-disciplinary ‘Introduction to Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) CPD Training Course’. The CPD course has been developed in accordance with Article 6B of the European Landscape Convention (ELC) – Training and Education. This is the first Landscape CPD training course of its kind in Ireland.
The ILI Awards 2009 are intended to reward excellence in design of the Public Realm, design of Commercial, Institutional and Residential landscape schemes, Landscape Planning, Heritage Conservation and Landscape Research.
Karen Foley, ILI Judge and Head of Landscape Architecture at University College Dublin, announced the winner of the ILI President’s Award 2009 stating that:
“This all-island, multi-disciplinary landscape CPD training course is an excellent contribution to the field of Landscape Architecture. The CPD Course addresses a great need for the recording, assessment and analysis of Irish landscapes. Only with the facts gathered through considered assessment can our landscapes and our environment be planned, protected and designed so as to avoid irreparable damage.
