Julianstown VDS Receives Commendation at National Planning Awards
The 7th National Planning Awards 2011 – 2012 were presented by Minister of State for Housing and Planning Jan O’Sullivan at a ceremony in the Custom House, Dublin, on Thursday, February 16th 2012. The Awards aim to highlight the best examples of planning practice and to raise the standard of townscape design and planning awareness both within the public and private sectors.
The Awards received a total of 28 nominations from entrants in all categories including rural and urban communities, the public and private sectors, and students highlighting the significant and positive role that planning has played especially in such challenging socio-economic times. The jury considered the quality of this year’s entrants to be one of the highest to date.
Fifteen projects were shortlisted and were invited to prepare and submit two presentation boards to the jury panel for consideration. These presentation boards were on display at the National Planning Awards ceremony and received much consideration by members of the public.
Five winners were selected from the shortlisted nominations while a further six projects were specifically commended for their contribution to planning in five different categories. These projects were incorporated into a National Planning Awards Guide 2011 – 2012 which was distributed to all invited guests on the day and sent to all planning authorities throughout Ireland.
