The 18th century Library building is home to one of Ireland’s most famous treasures – the 9th century copy of the gospels – The Book of Kells - and is a “must see” on the itinerary of every visitor to Dublin.
The Book of Kells “Turning Darkness into Light” exhibition which features large-scale details from manuscripts not only explains the background to the Book of Kells but also includes related manuscripts such as the Book of Armagh, the Book of Durrow, the Book of Mulling and the Book of Dimma.
The main chamber of the Old Library is the Long Room. At 65 metres long this spectacular room contains 200,000 of the Library’s oldest books in oak bookcases. There are temporary changing exhibitions mounted in the Long Room which show the richness and diversity of the Library’s collections of books and manuscripts and encourages further research.
Sa Sean-Leabharlann Choláiste na Trionóide, a tógadh san 18ú haois, atá ceann de na nithe is díol spéise in Éirinn – cóip na soiscéal ón 9ú haois – an Leabhar Cheanannais. Ba chóir go dtabharfadh gach turasóir ar Bhaile Átha Cliath cuairt ar an iontas seo.
Sa taispeántas ‘Turning Darkness into Light’ tugtar cúlra an Leabhair Cheanannais agus feictear íomhánna chomh maith ó na lámhscribhinní eile ón ré chéanna, maidir leis an Leabhar Árd-Mhacha, an Leabhar Dharú, an Leabhar Mulling agus an Leabhar Dimma.
Is é an Seomra-Fada príomh-seomra na Sean-Leabharlainne.
