Galway City Museum is located behind the Spanish Parade. The Museum features contemporary exhibitions and exhibitions on loan from other museums and galleries, in addition to our permanent exhibition galleries. Some of our exhibition highlights include: the Statue of Pádraic Ó Conaire. This iconic statue of the famous Gaelic writer sat for many years in Eyre Square prior to its move the museum. It is one of the most highly regarded symbols of the city. Suspended from the atriumis The Máirtín Oliver, this impressive 28’ Galway Hooker boat was commissioned by the City Museum. It had been named "Máirtín Oliver" in honour of the last King of the Claddagh to sail working boats such as these in Galway. Encased in an ornate silver reliquary casket is the Relic of St. Ursula, orpart of the skull of a follower of the Virgin Saint Ursula, which has come to be part of our collection through Galway’s connection with the Dominican Sisters.
