Housed in the renovated Methodist Church built in 1845 for Cornish miners, ACMM focuses on the vast 19th century mining enterprise that saw the Industrial Revolution arrive in this remote corner of Ireland, bringing state of the art engineering and mining techniques to mine the large ore deposits in the mountains above Allihies village. The story which falls under the general headings of prehistoric mining, nineteenth century mining techniques, geology and various aspects of social history is explored in an engaging way within the museum while the engine houses and various buildings on the mine site are key elements in bringing this unique story to life.
