Weekend oppening is seasonal and on the hosting of various events.

Situated in the early 18th Century Town Hall, the Museum traces the history of Athy, the Anglo–Norman town on the Marches of Kildare, which unfolds in an exciting mixture of sound and vision. Discover the effects of the 1798 Rebellion, the Great Famine and World War I. Learn about the Quakers of South Kildare and the Kellyites of Athy. Enjoy the thrills and spills of the 1903 Gordon Bennett motor race exhibition. The Museum is world renowned for featuring the only permanent exhibition devoted to Sir Ernest Shackleton the Irish Antarctic explorer which includes unique artefacts and film footage.
