Launch of Rindoon Conservation & Management Plan
On March 26th Minister Jimmy Deehihan visited the abandoned medieval town of Rindoon, Co. Roscommon. After a tour of this spectacular site he launched its new Conservation Management Plan. Since 2007 the Irish Walled Towns Network has given €255,000 for the conservation of Rindoon’s town walls. The Heritage Council has also provided funds for the conservation of the medieval church, mill, and graveyard.
In 2011, thanks mainly to years of work by St. John’s Heritage Group, 6,500 people visited the site. Just a few years ago this important place was largely unknown.
