Inland Waterways

Inland Waterways Content

Ireland’s inland waterways are important parts of our transport and industrial heritage. They hold aesthetic, recreational and spiritual values, as well as important habitats for many forms of wildlife.

Climate Change Review

A review of the impacts of climate change on maritime and inland waterways heritage, and their implications for tourism resources, has been commissioned by the Heritage Council.

Completion is expected for later in the year. Part-funded by Fáilte Ireland, the review will provide an overview of the current climate change scenarios and findings, methodologies and mitigation strategies used in Ireland and elsewhere.

It will inform future Heritage Council recommendations to government on priorities for action or further research. It will also provide Fáilte Ireland with strategies and action plans for the future. The review will be finished in 2008.
