Waterway Corridor Studies

Ireland’s inland waterways do not exist in isolation. Recognising their importance to so many aspects of Irish life, the Heritage Council has undertaken Waterway Corridor Studies on the Shannon, as well as on parts of the Grand and Royal Canals.

RECREATION INITIATIVE

The Beara Breifne Way Project

The Beara Breifne Way Project is an ambitious undertaking which will see the development of a walking and cycling route along the spine of the country, from Beara in Co. Cork to Breifne in Co. Leitrim. It follows the line of the historic march of O’Sullivan Beara in 1602.

Field Monument Advisor Scheme

The Heritage Council is working in partnership with Local Government and the farming community to provide advice to farmers on the management of archaeological monuments on privately owned farmland.
