Bloomsday at Glasnevin Museum
Date: 16th June 2012
Location: Glasnevin Museum
It is not unusual to see dedicated Joyceans make the annual trip to Glasnevin Cemetery in hired horse-drawn carriages; some even rent a hearse for full authenticity. Amongst the countless Joycean characters buried in Glasnevin... is the writer’s father John Stanislaus. This year to celebrate this historic date Glasnevin Museum will run a series of events Including a Joycean breakfast in the Tower cafe, a reading of Chapter six Hades by the Dublin Shakespeare Society and a Joycean tour of the cemetery with Shane MacThomais.
Joycean breakfast and lunch in the Tower café, where the best dressed Joycean at breakfast will win a free lunch. And, the Joycean tour of the cemetery where you will be able to find the final resting-place of a multitude of famous Irish people including Irish leaders like Daniel O'Connell, Charles Stewart Parnell, Michael Collins and Eamon de Valera and writer's like Gerard Manley Hopkins and Brendan Behan.
The tour will be conducted by Glasnevin Museum’s resident Historian and Author, Shane MacThomais. A free souvenir Glasnevin Cemetery Joycean map written and laid out by Mr.MacThomais will be given to those choosing to take the Joycean Tour at 1:30pm.
