Education is at the heart of The Heritage Councils work programme.  With knowledge comes a greater sense of responsibility and appreciation of the value of Heritage as it contributes to our quality of life.

Conservation Internship - The Chester Beatty Library

The Heritage Council and The Chester Beatty Library are pleased to offer an internship in paper conservation; it will run for twelve months thanks to additional support from the Library’s contributing members. The internship will be based at The Chester Beatty Library and will begin in October/ November 2012. 

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Library’s Head of Conservation and be involved in every aspect of work carried out in the busy Conservation Laboratory. This will include condition reporting and treatment of specific collections; as well as working on exhibitions, loans, surveys and housing projects. The intern will be encouraged to carry out a short research project on an aspect of the collection, the subject of which will be determined once the internship has begun.

Candidates should be recent graduates (2010-2012) of a recognised book and/or paper conservation training program. The applicant should be able to work with a degree of independence.

Stipend: €26,700 (subject to normal PRSI and PAYE deductions).
