As part of its remit under the Heritage Act, 1995 [pdf 96kb], the work of the Heritage Council reaches into the heart of communities throughout Ireland through its network of 28 County Heritage Officers. The primary responsibility of Heritage Officers is to assist in the development of County Heritage Plans. These plans are drawn up by groups representing different interests from within the community. Funding for projects initiated under the County Heritage Plans is made available through the Local Authority, the Heritage Council and through other sources.
This report presents the findings of the Co. Louth Visitor Survey 2012 conducted between June and August 2012. By far the most popular reason for visiting the county was to visit Heritage Sites at 18%.
