Archaeology

Humans have occupied Ireland for the past 10,000 years, leaving us with a rich legacy of archaeological monuments and landscapes. We work to conserve this unique archaeological heritage.

INSTAR Web Archive

The INSTAR web archive is a new database which hosts all research created under the INSTAR Programme since its establishment in 2008.   The creation of the database is a step forward in implementing one of INSTAR’s key aims to 'disseminate its results to a wide audience'. This enables both professionals and public alike to fully explore and further analyse the INSTAR grant aided projects under the various database search options.

Queries can be refined using one, or more, of the following:

  • INSTAR Theme
  • Project Year
  • Project Author (s)
  • Archaeological Period
  • Keyword Search

Search results will return a list of relevant project reports in PDF format.  As INSTAR projects may be funded for a year to three year cycles, there are three report types:

  • Progress Report – an end-of-year report, only written when the project is not in its final year of funding
  • Final Report – a conclusive  end-of-year report, only written when a project is in its final phase of funding
  • Summary Report – summarising the objectives, methodologies, findings and output of a project year

Click on the links entitled 'Related Projects' to access reports for other relevant years in a project cycle.

Note: The above links are not available when searching under 'Keyword'.
